The Poet: It’s Been Six Days

It’s been six days,
Days not a word was written,
My life is a massive hectic maze,
I don’t even have time to pet my kitten.

That’s not entirely true,
I tend to exaggerate quite a bit,
To seem like the hours are too few,
I really do sound like a twit.

I haven’t done jack for a week,
And, I did it by choice,
A choice I regret as the outlook is bleak,
It’s like I’ve given up my voice.

I would make a vow to renew my dedication,
But, I know my brain is on permanent vacation.

The Poet: Learning

Learning, learning something new,
Every day I always do,
It helps me see things in a different hue,
And, expands the bounds of what I know.

Write what you know they always say,
What I know is really boring, kay?
I don’t fly around and shoot a space ray,
I sit at a keyboard and tip tap my life away.

But, this life is the most fulfilling,
It’s the reader’s heart I’m stealing,
Giving their soul a good healing,
And their mental soil a good tilling.

Don’t you know I’m up here frozen,
Knowing you’re the only chosen.

The Poet: My Brain is Totally Blank

My brain is totally blank,
I can’t think of a single thing,
I’m only trying to be frank,
Rather than go out on a wing.

I’ve got lots of writing to do,
My first fantasy novel will be published June 18th,
The 204th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo,
It’s a military fantasy about the navy and marines.

I need the covers designed,
So much logistical crap,
I’ll just have to stick my nose to the grind,
And, hope I don’t create a bottomless trap.

Sometimes decisions are easy to make,
It’s the follow through that takes the cake.

The Poet: I’m a Terrible Human Being

I’m a terrible human being,
I missed my post yesterday,
I can’t believe what I’m seeing,
I broke my streak at 8 days.

It’s horrible, I know,
But I shall survive,
I’ll come back better, I’ll grow,
For today my streak I will revive.

I’ll go more than 8 days this time,
Don’t believe me, just watch me do it,
Not doing it would be one serious crime,
And I have to show off my wonderful wit.

Self-deprecation, I came really close,
But, I defeated it with poetry and prose.

The Poet: Getting Motivated

I’ve written about instant gratification before,
But, now I want to publish an unwritten novel,
I’m not even sure how that idea got out the door,
Much less build and fortify its own little hovel.

Here I’m thinking I can be a great writer,
When setting down to write is near impossible to do,
The burden on my shoulders doesn’t get any lighter,
When I have too many ideas to view.

Motivation is near impossible for me,
I don’t have the dedication for follow through,
I feel as immobile as a tree,
I can’t find the getup to just do.

Maybe today will be different I think,
Maybe today I’ll sit and write till I turn pink.

The Poet: Playing a Game

Playing a game,
It’s all good,
A game just the same,
There is nothing I forbid.

A game with cards and dice,
Real strategy is involved,
It’s my one and only vice,
Though it’s often unresolved.

The game of life,
It’s a bitch,
Give me the knife,
And, try not to twitch.

Now that you’ve seen my face,
I must send you to outer space.

The Poet: Five Day Streak

This is my favorite notification,
A little reminder I’m doing my best,
A victory to help drive my motivation,
Seeing as there’s no time for rest.

I’ve got so many other things to do,
It’s nice to know when I’ve got a victory,
It makes me feel all shiny and new,
Roll out the big artillery.

And now I’m about to go to sleep,
And ruin my five day streak,
I don’t want to slide down to deep,
I will not let this be my victory’s peak.

Excelsior. Onward and upward, every moving forward,
I look forward to the day my thirty-day streak is rewarded.

The Poet: Super Sonnet Sunday: Everything But the Kitchen Sink

Mother Nature is like me,
Quite bipolar, just for a start,
Temps in the eighties one day, from it I only want to flee,
The next is thirty-nine, your breath comes in clouds to wave away.

And, now the poem will shift,
A neat little segue,
To love being the world’s most beautiful gift,
Assigning a ten thousand word essay.

What does an essay have to do with love,
Everything! If it’s an essay on Romeo and Juliet,
The love between them is sweeter than any dove,
Spend five hundred words describing the sunset.

Romeo and Juliet, an essay on love, Mother Nature’s mental disorder,
What more can be crammed into this oversized poem?
This question could not be harder,
A challenge it is, and I’m going to show them.

Star Wars and Star Trek and Doctor Who for good measure,
We’ll stir up a nice pot of chaos,
John de Lancie is both Q and Discord, of that I am sure,
Come now, it’s time for the séance.

What does Harley Quinn and Twilight Sparkle have in common?
Their voice actor, the one and only Tara Strong,
Seems awfully rotten,
Smelling distinctly of Hong Kong.

And this has been my Super Sonnet Sunday,
You better believe it’s my number one fun day.

The Poet: My Belly’s Full

My belly’s full,
Now seems like the perfect time to sleep,
But, there’s so much work to push and pull,
I don’t have time to settle down and drift down deep.

My homework is done,
That is true,
But, I have to write a metric ton,
If I ever want to bid my day job adieu.

My eyelids grow heavy,
And, heavier still,
I’ve a burden of dreams to carry,
But it all amounts to nil.

And now the decision must be made,
Do I chose the sweet tea or raspberry lemonade?
